Bantwal: Youth arrested for riding under drug influence, obstructing police duty

Bantwal, May 5, 2026: Vittal police have arrested a 26-year-old youth for riding a scooter under the influence of drugs and misbehaving with a police sub-inspector during a vehicle inspection.

The accused has been identified as Mohammed Asbeer (26), a resident of Kolnadu in Bantwal.

According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, May 3, when sub-inspector B.S. Nayak and his team were conducting a vehicle checking drive at the Vittal four-way junction. The police stopped a scooter (KA-19-HX-0497) as the rider was not wearing a helmet.

During the check, the accused allegedly behaved inappropriately with the sub-inspector and obstructed him from performing his duties. Noticing his erratic behaviour, police suspected he was under the influence of an intoxicant. Upon questioning, Asbeer admitted to consuming narcotics.

He was later subjected to a medical examination, which confirmed drug consumption.

A case has been registered at Vittal police station under Crime No. 100/2026, under Section 27(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985, Section 221 of the BNS, and Rule 230(1) read with Section 177 of the IMV Act. Further investigation is in progress.
