Bantwal: Six members of same family injured in road accident near Surikumeru

Bantwal, Aug. 7, 2026: Six members of a family sustained minor injuries in a road accident near the Hindustan Petroleum petrol bunk at Surikumeru on Thursday evening.

The family was travelling from Mangaluru towards Uppinangady in a car, with two adults and four children on board. The accident reportedly occurred after the driver lost control of the vehicle while passing through the highway stretch near Surikumeru.

Local residents alleged that ongoing road works and inadequate road arrangements on the highway contributed to the accident. All six occupants sustained minor injuries and were provided first aid at the spot. Fortunately, none of them suffered serious injuries.

According to local residents, several accidents have occurred in the Surikumeru area in the past due to what they described as unscientific road construction work on National Highway 75. They alleged that the lack of proper signboards, safety measures and scientifically planned road works has increased the risk of accidents in the area.

With accidents reportedly occurring frequently in the stretch, residents have urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the concerned contractor to take immediate safety measures and rectify deficiencies in the ongoing road works.
