Bantwal: Missing youth’s body found in Netravathi river

Bantwal, May 22, 2026: The body of a youth was found in the Netravathi river at Panemangalore in Bantwal on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Irfan (36), son of Mohammed, a resident of Goodinabali in B. Mooda village.

The body was spotted by municipal sanitation workers of Bantwal Town Municipality while they were carrying out waste management work near the river. They immediately informed the Bantwal Town Police.

Police personnel along with local residents from Goodinabali retrieved the body from the river. As the identity of the deceased could not initially be established, the body was kept in the mortuary cold storage at Bantwal Government Hospital.

Later in the evening, the deceased was identified as Irfan, a resident of Goodinabali. It is learnt that he had been working in Saudi Arabia and had returned to his hometown around three years ago. After returning, he had purchased an autorickshaw and was earning a livelihood through it. He is survived by his wife and three children.

According to sources, Irfan had been missing for the past three days before his body was found in the Netravathi river on Thursday.

Family members have expressed suspicion over the death after noticing injuries on his hands. They have demanded a post-mortem examination and sought justice in the case, family sources said.
