Bantwal, Aug 28, 2025: Police have revealed that a complaint filed by Umar Farooq, a resident of Sajipunnur, alleging that he was attacked with a sword in an attempt to murder him, has turned out to be false.
According to police, Umar Farooq (48) of Sajipunnur had lodged a complaint at Bantwal Rural Police Station stating that on June 11, while he was traveling by jeep from Nandavara towards Derlakatte, two unidentified men attacked him with swords near Deraje bus stop at Sajipanadu, allegedly attempting to kill him. Based on this complaint, a case (Crime No. 68/2025) had been registered under Sections 109, 324(4) and 3(5) of BNS-2023.
However, during the investigation, police confirmed that the case was fabricated and submitted a report to the court. They further stated that Umar Farooq had deliberately filed a false complaint, creating panic among the public and attempting to provoke unrest.
Following this, a fresh case (Crime No. 128/2025) has been registered against him under Sections 192, 353(1)(B), 230(1), and 248(A) of BNS. The accused has been arrested and produced before the Bantwal court, which has remanded him to judicial custody until September 6, the district SP informed the media.
