Bantwal, July 16, 2026: A 42-year-old labourer was killed and two others sustained critical injuries after a lorry carrying laterite stones overturned at Athalike near Allipade in Devasyapaduru village on the outskirts of Bantwal on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Pramod, a resident of Kavalapaduru. The injured, lorry driver Sunil and fellow labourer Krishnappa, were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred while the lorry was returning from a laterite stone quarry with a full load. The vehicle is believed to have gone out of control before overturning. Locals suspect brake failure may have caused the mishap, although the exact reason will be determined after the police investigation.
The impact of the accident caused the lorry to overturn completely, trapping Pramod and Krishnappa beneath the vehicle. Rescue personnel and local residents used a JCB excavator to extricate them before they were shifted to hospital. Despite efforts to save him, Pramod succumbed to his injuries.
Traffic Police Sub-Inspector Adarsh visited the accident site, conducted an inspection, and has launched an investigation into the incident.
