Bantwal: Fire on Kenthale hill reduces trees, plants to ashes

Bantwal, Feb 13, 2026: An accidental fire broke out on a hill at Kenthale in Kukkipadi on Thursday.

The blaze erupted on a hill situated on land owned by Nithyananda Poojary, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky. After noticing the fire, he alerted fire stations at Bantwal, Moodbidri, and Beltangady. However, as fire personnel did not reach the spot, local residents took swift action and managed to extinguish the flames by pouring water.

Nearly one and a half acres of land were affected in the incident, with trees and plants completely reduced to ashes. Several arecanut plants were also destroyed in the fire, Nithyananda Poojary said.
