Bantwal: College students slips to death in Karinja Temple Lake

Punjalakatte, June 7, 2025: A college student has slipped and drowned in the Gadha Theertha Kere of the famous Karinja temple in Bantwal taluk on Saturday morning. The boy had been near the lake to wash his feet when tragedy struck.

The deceased is Chethan (19), a student of B Mooda Government PU College in Bantwal. He was the son of Sridhar Moolya of Kangittulu.

Chethan used to visit Karinja shrine every Saturday. Accordingly, he had been to the temple  along with his friend Prashwith today. As he was descending the steps towards the lake, he slipped and fell into the lake. His friend Prashwith raised a cry as he did not know to swim. Local youth plunged into the lake and managed to trace Chethan. However he had breathed his last by the time he was brought out of the water.
