Bantwal: Burglars break into house, decamp with gold, cash and silver idol

Bantwal, May 9, 2026: Burglars broke into a house belonging to Prakash, a resident of Goremar near Pachinadka, and stole gold ornaments, cash and a silver idol in an incident reported under the jurisdiction of the Bantwal Town Police Station on Thursday.

According to the complaint, the thieves gained entry into the house after breaking the latch of the front door. They allegedly stole three pairs of gold earrings weighing around 16 grams and three gold rings weighing about 18 grams from a locker inside the cupboard. The total value of the stolen gold ornaments is estimated at around Rs 4.13 lakh.


Theft case

In addition, cash amounting to Rs 65,000 was also reportedly stolen from the house.

The burglars are also accused of stealing a silver idol of Lord Krishna worth around Rs 20,000 from the prayer room, along with nearly Rs 5,000 kept in the donation box.

House owner Prakash was working at a bakery in Kerala and used to visit his hometown once a month. As schools were on vacation, his wife and children had gone to Shivamogga. The theft came to light after neighbours noticed that the front door of the house was open and informed the family.

Anantha Padmanabha and fingerprint experts visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Police have launched an investigation into the case.
