
Bantwal, Apr 2, 2026: At least seven students were seriously injured after a car, reportedly out of the driver’s control, crashed into an electric pole on a road divider at Maripalla near Farangipete on Wednesday night.
The accident occurred around 12:45 am. The injured students are said to be from Udupi, and further details are awaited.
According to eyewitnesses, the car hit the electric pole on the divider with such force that it dragged the pole along before overturning. There were four female students and three male students in the car. Locals rushed to the spot, lifted the overturned vehicle, and shifted the injured to a hospital.
The car was travelling from Mangaluru towards B.C. Road along the National Highway when the driver lost control. The vehicle mounted the divider at Maripalla, hit the electric pole, and overturned.
Due to the impact, the electric pole snapped and the car was badly damaged. With the help of locals, the injured students were admitted to Thumbay Father Muller Hospital.
Police visited the spot and have taken up further investigation.
