Baltila villagers demand harshest punishment to Sowmya’s killers

Bantwal, Mar 3, 2013: Villagers of Balthila, including a large number of women, met at the local panchayat hall on March 2, Saturday,to condemn the brutal killing of 22 year old Sowmya  who was recently murdered by a localite when she resisted his advances towards her.

Leaders and members of the general public who mourned the death of the young girl, demanded harshest punishment like death penalty to the killer and said he should not be spared. They also urged that no advocate should took up the case in favour of the killer. Some of the demands placed forth at the meeting was to extend moral support to the family of Sowmya  and also to urge the government to provide compensation to the bereaved family.


Several senior citizens who took part in the meeting, stressed for  an impartial and apolitical struggle for justice in the case.


Prominent among those  who attended are District BJP President Padmanabha Kottari, Sulochana Bhat, Bal Bhavan Society President, ZP members Mamatha Gatti, Chandraprakash Shetty, District JD(S) youth Wing President Krishnappa Poojari,  Lalitha Shivappa Naik, President of Bantwal Taluk Panchayat and Bantwal inspector B Shekhar.


The meeting expressed its resentment over the fact that neither the local MP Nalin Kumar nor the DC chose to visit the grieving family members. A memorandum to be submitted  to the governor was read out on the occasion.
