Balepuni: Students protest against opening of bar near school

Mangaluru, July 13, 2023: Students of the Punyakoti Sharada Vidya Ganapati Vidya Kendra of Balepuni village staged a protest on July 12, Wednesday to condemn the opening of a bar and restaurant near the school at Kairangala Punyakotinagar.

 

Speaking on the occasion, the School Management Board President Rajaram Bhat said indefinite protests will be held until the restaurant is closed. He said a bar is not allowed near a school and alleged that this particular bar and restaurant was permitted in violation of guidelines.

He said the bar inconvenienced the students, particularly girls while they return home in the evening and he urged the Panchayat to cancel its license. He said the bar was just 50 meters away from the school entrance.

The school chairman and students also submitted a memorandum to the Balepuni GP Chief Zarina.
