Bharat Kumdel, who was named as a main accused in the murder cases of SDPI worker Ashraf Kalayi and more recently Abdul Rahiman, had been absconding since the latter’s killing. As he failed to appear before the court for the past 3–4 months, a warrant had been issued against him.

Recently, SP Dr. Arun had registered cases under the COCA (Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act) against all accused in the Abdul Rahiman murder case. Following the fresh COCA charges and the pending warrant in the Ashraf Kalayi case, Bharat Kumdel has now surrendered before the Mangaluru District Court.
