Mangaluru, Sep 11, 2021: The public sectors assets which were built and developed with great efforts since independence have been put up for sale by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government, said senior Congressman and Opposition Leader in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.
Speaking to reporters at the District Congress Office on September 11, Saturday, he said people who are questioning what the Congress has done during its tenure in the past several years, have now placed public assets for sale to private parties. The Centre has proved that it is incapable of handling and maintaining the railways, ports, roads, gas pipelines, electricity transmission lines, telecom towers , stadium and such other public sector assets that were developed during Congress rule, he said.
"Today the nation is in such a state that the selling by two will be purchased by two. Still they are questioning the contributions of the Congress. If Congress governments of the past had done nothing, how come there are 27,000 km long roads and 400 railway stations as revealed by the Centre’s statistics?," he questioned.
"It is a tragedy that the beneficiaries of the public assets are silent over the government’s policy of selling public sector assets," he regretted.
Kharge further said Prime Minister Modi led government has in the past seven years sold PSUs for Rs 3.5 lakh crores. The public sector assets are being sold mainly to help some selected businessman having close links with the government, he alleged.
