Mangalore, Feb 01: The members of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) actually united for at least half an hour to flay DC Subodh Yadav. BJP as well as Congress corporators agreed that the DC interferes unnecessarily in the MCC’s administrative issues.
Opposition leader Ashok D. K. initiated the “DC flaying” session by asking Mayor Rajani Dugganna to assign a special seat for the DC at the MCC’s council meetings. Shankar Bhat, the former mayor of the MCC, said that the DC had chaired the MCC’s development meetings and has dictated terms regarding water supply to Ullal and others important issues.
R. Shantha, the chairperson of the standing committee on health, complained that the DC has instructed health department officials to serve in rural areas. Former mayor Shashidhar Hegde said that the DC’s dictatorial attitude reflects the MCC’s administrative failure, adding that the MCC requires the DC’s guidance, and not his interference.
Harinath, the former opposition leader, said that DC should stick to scrapping the master plan using his own power instead of interfering with the MCC’s administrative issues. Ranganath Kini said that DC is attempting to rule over the “Own Your Park, Own Your Road” scheme and the solid waste management scheme, in addition to several other schemes. Quoting the KMC Act, Corporator James D’Souza said that the DC cannot interfere in the administrative issues of the MCC.
MCC Commissioner K. N. Vijay Prakash pointed out to the enraged corporators that the DC has plans for the development of Mangalore and said that his guidance and suggestions should not be mistaken to be interference. The mayor assured the corporators that she would discuss this issue with the DC.
