BJP Slams Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao Over Sand Shortage, Threatens Agitation

Mangaluru, August 3, 2025: Accusing Minister in charge of Dakshina Kannada Dinesh Gundu Rao of ignoring the ongoing sand and laterite stone shortage, the BJP on Saturday threatened to intensify its agitation. BJP district president Satish Kumpala said the Minister failed to hold consultations with local MLAs and MLCs during his recent visit to Mangaluru, despite repeated appeals.

MLA Y. Bharat Shetty criticized the Mines Department’s claim of sand availability via the DK Sand Bazaar App, stating the sand was too coarse for construction. BJP leaders, including MLC K. Prathapsimha Nayak, reiterated that the poor supply has left many construction workers jobless. The party urged the government to act immediately or face protests.
