Mangaluru, Jan 25, 2026: A workshop on the Centre’s Viksit Bharat — Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) scheme was held at the district BJP office here on Saturday.
Inaugurating the programme, MP Captain Brijesh Chowta alleged that the Congress was unsettled by the scheme and was attempting to mislead the public by spreading false information about it.

MLC Pratap Simha Nayak said the rural development–focused scheme introduced several reforms and improvements and was expected to earn wide public support. Fearing this shift in sentiment, he alleged, the Congress was trying to stall the initiative through misinformation, which the BJP would counter.
State BJP secretary Lakshmi Ashwin Gowda, in her address, compared the earlier MGNREGA scheme with VB-G RAM G. She alleged that MGNREGA was marred by corruption, while the new scheme leveraged technology to prevent leakages and ensure direct benefit transfer. She noted that the number of guaranteed workdays had been increased from 100 to 125, along with a significant rise in minimum daily wages. She added that the scheme also enhanced the role of gram panchayats in achieving the goal of a developed India.
At the valedictory session, Dakshina Kannada BJP district president Sathish Kumpala said the Congress had merely renamed schemes in the past, whereas VB-G RAM G was focused on strengthening villages and empowering the poor. He said the BJP would intensify outreach efforts across the district to create awareness about the scheme and ensure its benefits reached eligible beneficiaries.
MLAs Umanath Kotian and Bhagirathi Murulya, and MLC Kishore Kumar were among those present.
