BEM Educational Institutions to celebrate 175th anniversary on Sept 7

Mangalore, Sep 5, 2013: The 175th anniversary celebration of BEM Educational Institutions will be held at the Centenary Hall of the School on September 7, Saturday at 10.30 am, said Walter J Maben, President of BEM 175th Anniversary Celebration Committee.

Speaking at the press meet held at BEM School on Sep 5, Thursday he said that MLA J R Lobo will hoist the Institution flag, while Philomena Lobo, Principal, District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) will inaugurate the ceremony by lighting the lamp at the formal stage programme.

He also said that Dr M Mohan Alva, founder of Alva’s Educational Institution will launch the logo of 175th celebration, while Rev Dr Hannibal Cabral Karnataka, principal of Karnataka Theological College will launch the website of institution.

Walter said that the event will be preceded by a procession comprising  the management, students, old students of BEM institution accompanied by Chende, dancing dolls, yakshagana artists and tiger dancers. The procession will  commence from School and conclude at same venue after passing through  Navabharath Circle, City Centre, Sharavu Temple and Carstreet.

Speaking on the school history, he said that around 50% of the building and the furniture are 100 years old. At present there are 70 students in lower primary, 84 in higher primary, 120 in high school and 150 PU level.

The institution  which had 6 and half acres of land  could now retain just two acres after acquisition for road widening project. He claimed that the institution offers education at the lowest fees. The college has still maintained  the admission record of the year 1896 -1906. Since 2006, the students of the institution are giving 100 percent result in the board examination.
