Auto fares hiked in Dakshina Kannada; minimum fare now Rs 40 for first 1.5 km

Mangaluru, Sep 1, 2026: Auto-rickshaw fares in Dakshina Kannada district have been revised, with the minimum fare fixed at Rs 40 for the first 1.5 km. The revised fare is applicable for up to three passengers.

Under the new fare structure, passengers will have to pay Rs 20 for every kilometre beyond the initial 1.5 km. This rate is also applicable to a maximum of three passengers.

The first 10 minutes of waiting time will be free of charge. After that, a waiting fee of Rs 5 can be charged for every 15 minutes or part thereof.

Passengers will be charged 1.5 times the normal fare only between 10 pm and 5 am.

The revised fare structure is applicable to both passengers and auto-rickshaw drivers. Drivers, however, are strictly prohibited from collecting any amount above the prescribed fare.
