Austen Tauro, former Chairman, Indian Oil Corporation passes away

Mangaluru, Feb 18, 2023: Austen Tauro, former Chairman, Indian Oil Corporation passed away following age related illness on February 17, 2023 . He was aged 94 years.  Austen J.A.Tauro, the eldest son of Cajetan S Tauro, married to Claire, daughter of Chev. APC Albuquerque of Madras. They have four children. He lived on Sturrock Road, Falnir,  Mangalore and leaves behind many grieving family members, relatives, friends and well wishers. His funeral took place at Milagres Church, Mangalore on Saturday, February 18, 2023 afternoon. Based on his wishes, his body has been donated to Father Muller Medical College.

Austen  Tauro,  qualified for the IAS in 1951. Spent the early years in Assam an officer in the Indian Audits & Accounts Service as Deputy Accountant General. Towards the end of the 1950s they moved to London where he was Additional Financial Advisor to the Indian High Commission. Some of the positions he held : Under Secretary Finance, Financial Advisor to the Mormugao Port Trust, soon after the liberation of Goa,  Deputy Secretary in the Home Ministry, Jt Dir Institute of Applied Manpower Research, Finance Director Indian Petrochemicals Corpn. Baroda,  Chairman & MD Madras Refineries Ltd, Chairman Indian Oil Corpn.  

Austen Tauro was an illustrious son of the Mangalore soil who gained great stature and served the country in high positions of the public sector for decades. The passing away of a dear one who is also an asset to the community is a great loss by all counts. The consolation  God provides is that the dear soul has joined HIM in all bliss. Life and death are two sides of the same coin - the light is extinguished because the dawn has come. We pass this way only once we shall not pass this way again, so let us do our best always.
