Assembly polls: Ban orders enforced in DK till May 6

dc harsha gupta13may4 1Mangalore, May 4, 2013: Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta who is also the District Magistrate and election officer has issued a notification enforcing prohibitory orders under Section 144 in the entire district from 5 pm on May 3 upto 6 am on May 6, Monday.


The Deputy Commissioner has informed that the above measure has been taken to ensure free and fair elections in a peaceful atmosphere.


During the period when ban orders are in force people are  prohibited from:
*Canvassing in groups or rallies
* Assembly of five or more persons in public places or around polling centres.
* Carrying of weapons  of any sort including sticks or lathis which can be used for violence.
* Use of mobile phones within a 100-metre radius from the polling booths.


No function, meeting or procession can be organised without the prior permission of the election officer. Shouting of slogans and pasting of posters are also banned.


However, four or less people can go on a door to door campaigning and the restrictions are not applicable to government programmes or  police or paramilitary forces discharging election duty.
