Ashwini, Poovamma in Indian relay squad for Moscow World Championships

Mangalore, Jul 21, 2013: Dakshina Kannada based athlete Ashwini Akkunji who has recently completed her two year ban after failing the dope test,  has been named in the Indian women’s 4x400m relay squad  for the World Championships to be held in Moscow in August.

Ashwini’s  ban had ended on July 3 this year and the news of her selection comes  days after  it and she has been included in the  women’s 4x400m relay squad of six members. Even MR Poovamma, the Mangalore based athlete from Kodagu has been selected for the relay  team. Others in the team are Tintu Luka, Anu Mariam Jose, Nirmala and Anilda Thomas.

The  Indian team had even won gold in Asian Athletic Championships  held in Pune recently.
