Ankola: Methane gas tanker overturns near Agasuru, traffic diverted

Uttara Kannada, Nov 18, 2025: A tanker transporting methane gas overturned near the Agasuru Kanchina Bagilu area on Thursday afternoon, triggering brief panic in the locality. Traffic on the Ankola–Yellapur National Highway came to a standstill following the incident. Though no major mishap was reported, authorities restricted public movement around the area as a precaution.

The tanker was en route from Kaloja in Gujarat to Hebri Vishwas Nagar. Initial reports suggest the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the accident.

Ankola Tahsildar Dr Chikkappa Nayak, police personnel and fire service teams rushed to the spot and carried out inspections. Officials are checking for possible methane leakage, while technical experts from the company are expected to arrive from Udupi for a detailed assessment before further action is taken.

With traffic affected, alternative routes have been arranged for vehicles between Ankola and Yellapur, with movement diverted via the Hoskambi–Hillur and Agasuru–Kodsan roads.
