Anita Kasaragodu arrested for alleged derogatory social media posts targeting Bunt and Billava communities

Mangaluru, Jun 12, 2026: Barke police have arrested Anita Kasaragodu for allegedly posting derogatory and provocative messages targeting the Bunt and Billava communities on social media. She was produced before a court on Thursday and remanded to judicial custody.

According to police sources, Anita Kasaragodu had allegedly been making objectionable remarks against members of the Bunt and Billava communities through a series of social media posts over the past several days. She had also reportedly issued challenges through her online messages. A video shared by her on social media sparked widespread outrage among members of the communities.

Following the circulation of the video, Rakesh Poojary of the Biruver Kudla organisation lodged a complaint at the Barke police station. Based on the complaint, police initiated an investigation, examined the social media content in question, collected technical evidence and subsequently arrested the accused.

Police said Anita Kasaragodu had travelled to Bengaluru and was staying at her sister’s residence. Investigators traced her whereabouts using mobile phone tracking before taking her into custody in Bengaluru.

She was later brought to Mangaluru and produced before the court on Thursday. The court remanded her to judicial custody.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
