Mangaluru, Feb 15, 2026: Asserting that street dogs have a right to live, animal lovers staged a protest outside the Mangaluru City Corporation office here on Saturday, demanding respect for the rights of mute animals.
The protesters said some sections were opposing the feeding of street dogs by citing recent observations of the Supreme Court of India on street dog management. Harassing people who feed street dogs is unjustified, they said.

They pointed out that the Supreme Court has issued only interim guidelines in the matter and that a final order is yet to be delivered. Until arrangements are made for the rehabilitation of street dogs, feeding them should be allowed as earlier, in line with the guidelines, they added.
The protesters demanded an increase in the number of Animal Birth Control (ABC) centres, strict action against those who abandon pet dogs on the streets, identification of designated feeding spots, and promotion of street dog adoption.
Animal lovers including Harish Rajkumar, Dr Shruti Rao, Bindiya, Suma Naik, Mamata Rao and Shalette participated in the protest.
