Mangaluru, Dec 17, 2014: As many as 11 sand laden trucks were intercepted by angry residents of Eliyarapadavu near Konaje on December 17, Wednesday after a sand truck caused an accident. It has been learnt that a bike rider was injured in the mishap.
The complaint of the local residents was that the sand laden trucks moved on the narrow and pot-holes ridden roads giving room for frequent accidents. It has been gathered that the sand trucks which used to otherwise travel on the Harekala-Konaje route were now using the Baithar, Debbeli and Eliyarapadavu route ever since the earlier road concretisation works are underway.
Locals also complained that several accidents have taken place on the road in the past few days. They even lodged a complaint with the Konaje police following which the Konaje cops as well as the tahsildar rushed to the spot and seized the eleven trucks.
However, things have taken a different turn with the owner of the trucks alleging that a group had demanded Rs 200 per truck to allow it to ply on the narrow road and that the protest was staged as he refused to heed to the demand. He also stated that all the trucks that were intercepted were owned by him.
