Mangalore, Mar 22: Anganwadi workers affiliated to the Karnataka Rajya Anganwadi Noukarara Sangha organized a protest in front of the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) office on March 22, Tuesday, demanding certain revisions in their pension scheme.
During the protest, they shouted slogans against the government for introducing a pension scheme that is not in the best interests of the workers.
CITU District President Ravikala said that the state government has introduced an unreliable pension scheme called NPS Lite although they had demanded an LIC-based pension scheme.
The Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers’ Union had organized a statewide protest demanding that the salaries of anganwadi workers, also known as honorariums, should be raised from Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 1,250 to Rs. 6000 and Rs. 4000, respectively. They alleged that the government is least bothered about the welfare of anganwadi workers and urged all workers to fight in unity for their rights.
