An Artistic opposition to Netravathi River Diversion Project

Mangalore, Nov 3, 2013: Artists of the district have joined hands in sensitizing the public on the drastic consequences of the proposed Netravathi River Diversion. They have taken up their brushes  and painted their expression on the canvas through cartoons and caricatures.

As many as 22  art works of eight artists are on  display at the Orchid Art Gallery in Mangalore.


The exhibition was inaugurated on December 2, Monday. The caricatures and cartoons attracted the attention of many. If some of them have chosen to target politicians of the region for their lack of concern on such a vital issue, others   pinpoint the public for also choosing to remain mum at times.

Niranjan Rai, President of the Netravati River Diversion Opposition Committee, Uppinangady who spoke at the inaugural function took the politicians to task for  the decision to go ahead with such a controversial project. At the same time he pointed out that public have not opposed this project in unison.

 Noted artist Dinesh Holla said the art works displayed at the exhibition will also be put up during the Kalamela to be held at Kadri Park on December 14 and 15.They will also be displayed in Puttur, he said.

Art works of John Chandran, Uday Vittal,Jeevan, Amruth Vittal, Harini, Satish Acharya, Dinesh Kukkujadka and Yathi Siddakatte are displayed at the exhibition which will be open till December 4.
