Udupi, June 14, 2026: The Mangaluru–Kundapur carriageway of the vehicular underpass on National Highway 66 at Ambalpady was opened to traffic on Sunday, providing relief to commuters affected by damaged service roads and traffic congestion.

The underpass was inaugurated by Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary in the presence of Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna and other local leaders.

Ambalpady NH-66 Underpass Opened

The decision to open the carriageway was taken after the service road beneath the flyover developed large potholes and suffered severe waterlogging, making travel difficult and unsafe for motorists. To ease public hardship, authorities have temporarily allowed one-way traffic on the underpass.

Officials said the second carriageway will be opened on Monday, enabling two-way traffic movement. The temporary arrangement is intended to improve traffic flow while repair works on the damaged service road are planned.

Authorities said restoration of the service road will be taken up on a priority basis once traffic congestion in the area is reduced.
