
Mangaluru, Oct 9, 2026: Alva’s Virasat, the ambitious national cultural festival organised by Alva’s Education Foundation, and Alva’s Nudisiri, the national conference celebrating Kannada language, literature and culture, will be held together from January 6 to 10, 2027, said Dr M. Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation.
Announcing the details at a press conference on Thursday, Dr Alva said the central theme of Alva’s Nudisiri 2027 would be ‘Kannada Manassu: Bhavishyada Kanasu’ (Kannada Mindset: Dreams of the Future), with a special focus on youth.
The theme aims to shape Karnataka’s future by combining knowledge, science and technology with a strong sense of Kannada identity, language and culture in a rapidly changing society.
Renowned Kannada literary critic Dr Narahalli Balasubrahmanya will preside over Alva’s Nudisiri 2027, while senior journalist Vishweshwar Bhat will inaugurate the event.
Grand inauguration of Alva’s Virasat
The inaugural ceremony of Alva’s Virasat 2027 will be held on the evening of January 6. A grand procession featuring Vedic chants, bhajans, a flower-decorated palanquin and auspicious traditional musical performances will mark the occasion, showcasing India’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.
Awards for two achievers
A major highlight of the inaugural ceremony will be a Ganga Aarti team arriving from Haridwar to perform a traditional chariot Aarti accompanied by sacred chants and rituals.
Two distinguished achievers who have made significant contributions to classical and folk arts will also be honoured with the Alva’s Virasat Award.
National conference on environmental conservation
The national-level Hasiru Samvada conference will be held on January 6 and 7, bringing together more than 800 participants to discuss coastal environmental conservation, scientific waste management and community participation in building sustainable ecosystems.
To prevent waste from reaching the sea through rivers, more than 50 villages in the catchment areas of the Pavanje (Gurupura), Nandini and Shambhavi rivers have been selected for the initiative.
Village-level systems are being developed for waste segregation, collection, scientific processing and recycling, with the aim of establishing an effective and sustainable waste management model.
Bharat Scouts and Guides cultural jamboree
A state-level cultural jamboree of Bharat Scouts and Guides will be organised as part of the festival. More than 5,000 Scouts, Guides, Rovers and Rangers from various districts of Karnataka are expected to participate.
The jamboree will feature training programmes and activities designed to foster discipline, a spirit of service, leadership qualities and social responsibility among young people.
Free training for 800 student artists
To promote traditional and indigenous art forms, free training workshops will be organised for 800 student artists.
The workshops will cover various disciplines, including classical dance, music, instrumental accompaniment and solo performances. Students undergoing training as well as those proficient in these art forms will be eligible to participate.
Student artists below the age of 30 who have passed senior or junior-level state examinations in the arts, along with amateur artists, can take part in the programme.
Alva’s Vidyashree on January 8
Alva’s Vidyashree, a one-day conference for high school and pre-university college students, will be held on January 8.
The event aims to provide a platform for students to showcase their knowledge, talent and creativity.
Alva’s YuvaSiri to debut on January 9
A new initiative, Alva’s YuvaSiri, will be introduced on January 9. The conference will bring together undergraduate and postgraduate students and young people from various fields on a common platform to encourage their ideas, talents and aspirations.
Agriculture, science, food, book and art fairs
Special attractions at the combined Nudisiri-Virasat festival will include agriculture, science, food, book and art fairs.
Registration fee
Those wishing to participate as delegates at Alva’s Nudisiri-Virasat 2027 can register by paying a fee of ₹500 for all five days, Dr Alva said.
Nudisiri-Virasat secretary Venugopal Shetty and executive committee member Prasad Shetty were present at the press conference.
