
Udupi, Jun 25, 2026: The movement of heavy vehicles through Agumbe Ghat on National Highway 169A, which connects Malpe and Thirthahalli, has been prohibited until September 30 due to the risk of landslides triggered by continuous heavy rainfall.
Considering the possibility of landslides along the roadside caused by persistent rain and the movement of heavy vehicles, Udupi Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Swaroop T.K. has issued an order under Section 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Rule 221(A)(2)(5) of the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. As per the order, only light motor vehicles will be allowed to use the Agumbe Ghat stretch of NH-169A until September 30, while the movement of heavy vehicles has been banned in the interest of public safety.
Accordingly, heavy vehicles travelling from Thirthahalli towards Udupi have been directed to use the Thirthahalli–Nagar–Kundapur–Udupi route. Heavy vehicles coming from Chikkamagaluru to Udupi must travel via Balehonnur–Magundi–Kalasa–Kudremukh–S.K. Border.
Similarly, vehicles travelling from Narasimharajapura to Udupi have been instructed to follow the Koppa–Jayapura–Balehole–Kalasa–Kudremukh–S.K. Border route, the Deputy Commissioner’s order stated.
