Accident claims bike rider’s life : angry locals go beserk

Kasargod, Mar 17, 2014: A young bike rider lost his life  while the pillion rider sustained injuries  when their two-wheeler  collided head-on with a government bus at Karandakkad on March 16, Sunday. The accident triggered angry protests by locals who  vandalised a  bus depot.

kasaragod accident 1The deceased is Rajanish (24) of Nellikunje. The pillion rider Sujith (24) has been admitted to a hospital in Mangalore with critical injuries.  The Kerala State Transportation bus was heading towards Mangalore from Kasargod when it knocked down the two-wheeler.

When public began to protest and pelt stones, police had to lathi charge. A few of the protestors were detained making matters further worse. A protest was staged in front of the police station and  police had to yield to pressure and release five persons.

However, bus crew who too were agitated refused to   operate the buses and there is information that buses on Kasargod-Mangalore route will be off roads  till March 18, Tuesday afternoon. They have demanded that all protestors who vandalised the bus depot be arrested.

The deceased Rajanish who worked in the Gulf had returned home three months ago.

Kasargod town police have registered a case.
