Academy to hold workshop on “Tulu in 8th Schedule of Constitution: Possibilities, challenges”

Mangalore, December 18, 2012: Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy President Umanath A Kotian has informed that the Academy in association with Rani Abbakka Tulu Research Centre, Bantwal will hold a workshop on “Tulu language in the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution:Possibilities and challenges,” at Chandrama Kala Mandir at B C Road on Dec 23, Sunday at 10.30 am.


Speaking to reporters at  Press Club on Dec 18, Tuesday,Kotian  said that Dr R Subbakrishna, Deputy Director of Central Institute of Indian Languages will inaugurate the workshop.

He said that Tulu is a dominant language spoken in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod, and hence  has all the credentials to be included in the Eighth Schedule. Even  history says that Tulu language was    used in the Greek dramas centuries ago, Kotian pointed out.


The proceedings of the workshop will be compiled and published in the form of a book and will be brought out in Tulu, Kannada and English languages. The same will be presented at    ‘Delhi Tulu Siri – 2013’ to be held at New Delhi on February 24, he said.


Prof Tukaram Poojary, President of Bantwal Rani Abbakka Tulu Research Centre said that Tulu scholars like Prof A V Navada, Dr Vamana Nandavar, Dr P Vishnu Bhat, Dr P Ganapayya Bhat, Dr Ramdas Prabhu, Dr Madhav Peraje and Dr Ananthkrishna Bhat will participate in the seminar and present their views on the subject.


Academy Registrar Chandrahas Rai and members Manjula Shetty and Damodar were present at the press meet.
