Academy felicitates first batch of Konkani students

Mangalore, June 24, 2012: The Karnataka State Konkani Sahitya Academy felicitated 60 students who successfully completed their SSLC with Konkani as the third language. 


Kasargod Chinna said that the Konkani-speaking community will never forget these students, who comprise the first batch of SSLC students who took Konkani as their third language. He acknowledged the role played by Konkani Prachar Sanchalan in introducing Konkani as the third language.

The Government of Karnataka introduced Konkani as the third language for Std. X last academic year. Sixty students from six schools, such as Urwa Pompei High School, Permannur St. Sebastian High School, Thokkottu Nithyadar English Medium School, Kulur High School, and Mulki Medallin High School, opted for Konkani and wrote the first Konkani exam on April 13. Fifty-one of these students were from DK and the rest were from Udupi. The largest number of students who wrote this exam was from St. Sebastian High School. 


Ancy D’Souza of Nithyadar High School emerged as the topper with 98 percent marks when Shanthi Samantha D’Souza of Udupi Udyavar Francis Xavier High School, who secured 95, was the runner-up. 


The dignitaries on the dais were MLA N. Yogish Bhat; Fr. Francis Rodrigues, editor of Rakknno Weekly; and Rajendra Shet, president of the Daivajna Brahman Sangha.
