ANF-Naxals exchange fire near Shringeri; constable injured

Chikmagalur, May 16, 2013 : An ANF constable is learnt to have sustained injuries during an exchange of fire between ANF personnel and suspected Naxals  at Kere Gram Panchayat limits near Shringeri on May 15, Wednesday morning.

The injured constable Girish who was initially treated at a hospital in Shringeri has been later shifted to Manipal Hospital. As per reports a gang of four Naxals had visited the house of a farmer in Muduba village the previous night and had demanded some  cereals ad had left in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Gathering hint of the  same, the ANF  had visited the area when a jeep carrying ANF personnel confronted a group of around eight Naxals near Heggane Estate and began firing. It is said the exchange of fire continued for half an hour after which the Naxals fled to the forests.

Combing operations have been intensified in the vicinity following the incident
