ABVP protests against professional colleges levying higher fees

Mangalore, July 19, 2013 : Hundreds of students under the aegis of the  Mangalore unit of the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad formed  a human chain  on the NH 64 near the Basaveshwara Circle here on July 19, Friday, demanding action against colleges which are levying higher fees for admission to professional courses.The agitators also shouted slogans denouncing the state government.

 Addressing the protestors,  Ramesh K, State Secretary of the ABVP said the government which had earlier promised  that there would be no hike in medical and engineering course fee, was now trying to  go back on its words.

He said the ABVP strongly condemned the government action of permitting COMED-K counseling for admission to medical courses prior to CET counseling and added this was against the interests of the poor students.

He also pointed out that several private engineering colleges were charging higher fee from students over and above the fee prescribed by the government and demanded stern action against such colleges.

Ramesh also accused the  Karnataka Examination Authority  of landing students in confusion through its policies.

Yatish Kumar P, City Unit Secretary of ABVP, Hithesh, Assistant Secretary, and several others took part in the protest.
