Mangalore, July 1, 2012: The Akhila Bharathiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organized a protest at Bunts Hostel on June 30, Saturday.

In his protest address, Ramesh K., secretary of the state ABVP, said that universities are taking up new educational projects without bothering to solve old problems that students are facing. Since CM Sadananda Gowda has 30 portfolios, there is no proper higher education minister to deal with these problems, he added.

The ABVP demanded that the 10 percent hike in CET fees must be withdrawn. Regarding the state government’s move to centralize the entrance procedure by providing counseling through the Karnataka Examination Authority, the ABVP criticized the government for failing to provide the same schedule for all the state universities.
The ABVP also demanded that the state government must take strict action against Dr. Prabhakaran, retired chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University; Dr. Saeeda Akhtar of Vijapur University; and Dr. Shashidhar Prasad of Mysore University. Further, the ABVP demanded implementation of RTE Act in all schools, withdraw the system of blocking seats in PGCET and CET, eliminate COMED-K, and investigate the blocking of 600 seats last year.

Further, the ABVP demanded that a higher education minister must be appointed at the earliest possible and that all the people involved in the Kuvempu University marks card scam must be arrested at the earliest possible.

The ABVP also warned of intensifying its protests if the government chooses to ignore its demands.

Chinmay Rai, secretary of the city ABVP, and many other ABVP activists took part in this protest.
