Tension prevailed even outside the police station when several Congress workers too arrived and demanded that the police should file an FIR against those who protested outside the MLA’s residence. There was also an heated exchange of words between ABVP activists and Congress workers. The latter were of the view that the protestors should have submitted a memorandum to the MLA instead of gheraoing his residence.

It is learnt, the MLA later directed the police to release the students and detain those who were not students but had participated in the protest with some prejudiced motives. Later the MLA himself arrived and told the protestors not to politicize an educational issue and assured to hold a meeting on September 7, Saturday to discuss the issue.

When the protestors pointed out that the condition of the BCM hostel at Suratkal was bad, Lobo asked them to contact the Mangalore North MLA.

Later, Lobo speaking to reporters questioned the motive of the protest now, particularly when the constituency was represented by BJP men all these years.

A case has been registered ion Kadri police station.
