Mangaluru, Dec 21, 2014: Any language can develop when it is effectively used  by the society as well as various sectors like education, commerce, industries as well as policy framers,said eminent Kannada writer Kum. Veerabhadrappa.

He was speaking after inaugurating a Konkani Sahitya Sammelan organised at the Scouts, Guides Bhavan at Lalbagh in the city on December  20, Saturday under the auspices of Konkani Sahitya Academy.

Continuing, he said a language can be retained  only when there is a good communication between different languages.Though it is regrettable that Konkani language does not have a script of its own,  it is happy that Konkani is progressing by using Kannada script, he added.

Senior Konkani writer AD Netto presided over the  conference  and said  Konkani literary field can develop with the active co-operation of all related organisations.

Dr Shobha S Neelavara, Associate Professor in Karnataka University who  was the chief guest stressed the need for creative and research works in Konkani.

 Writer Edwin JF  D’Souza’s  novel “Unya Bhavadtache’ published by the Academy was released by the Sammelan inaugurator Veerabhadrappa. An anthology of poems ‘Ayatheracho Book’ by Andrew L D’Cunha was released by Shobha S Neelavara while the Academy calendar brought out with the initiative of member Lawrence D’Souza was released by  AD Netto.

Roy Castelino, President of the Academy, Dr Devadas Pai, Registrar, Basti Vaman Shenoy, Founder President of Vishwa Konkani Kendra and others were present.
