Mangalore, Jan 25: The 7th All India Physiotherapy Students’ Conference was organized as part of Physio Week 2011 at T. V. Raman Pai Convention Hall on Jan 25, Tuesday, by the South Kanara Physiotherapy Teachers’ Association.
In his inaugural address, P. Chandramohan, the vice chancellor of Yenepoya University, said that physiotherapy has been around from times immemorial, adding that India had a rich civilization with universities such as Takshashila, Vikramashila, and Nalanda, in which a wide range of therapies, including physiotherapy, was taught.
MLA U. T. Khader, who was the chief guest of the event, said that society benefits a lot from physiotherapy, adding that he has assured the teachers and students of the district to organize the Physiotherapy Council in Karnataka. Stating that physiotherapy has a bright future, he said in a lighter vein that physiotherapists will soon have to be appointed in assemblies to treat the ministers who keep fighting there.
In his keynote address, Dr. Ali Irani, the ex physiotherapist of the Indian Cricket Team, said that around 5 lakh people are getting physiotherapy per day in India, adding that the country has around 3.5 lakh physiotherapists. Stating that energy heals patients much before hands do, he said that 3G technology will soon be used in physiotherapy treatment.
P. Chandramohan presented the U. T. Fareed and Naseema Fareed Gold Medal to Jyothi Pinto, a student of Shree Devi College, and many others.
