504 grams of gold worth Rs 24.4 lakh seized at Mangalore International Airport

Mangaluru, April 18, 2021: The officers of Mangalore air customs apprehended a man and seized 504 grams of gold that was being smuggled into the country, at Mangalore International Airport (MIA).

The surveillance team led by Deputy Commissioner of Customs Dr Kapil Gade had profiled and intercepted a passenger named Aboobakar Siddiq hailing from Pulikoor in Kasargod on his arrival from Dubai.


Gold smuggling


The passenger had arrived in the Air India Express flight IX 384 from Dubai. He tried to smuggle the gold by concealing it in his worn socks. The value of the seized gold is Rs 24.4 lakh. Further investigation is in progress.
