5 MLAs from Dakshina Kannada among 10 suspended for offending Speaker’s Chair

Bengaluru, July 20, 2023: Five BJP MLAs from Dakshina Kannada district are among the ten MLAs suspended from the Assembly till the end of the current session for offending the Speaker’s Chair and throwing paper missiles at Deputy Speaker Rudrappa Lamani who was officiating as presiding officer.

The suspended MLAs from DK are Vedavyas Kamath, Mangaluru South MLA, Bharath Shetty, Mangaluru North MLA, Sunil Kumar, Karkala MLA, Yashpal Suvarna, Udupi MLA and Umanath Kotian, MLA of Mulki.

Others who have been suspended including former deputy CM Ashwathanarayana, R Ashok, MLAs Araga Jnanendra, Deeraj Muniraju and Aravind Bellad.

The MLAs who had staged protest at the well of the house had even torn copies of the budget and hurled them as missiles towards the Speaker’s Chair.

The BJP MLAs had protested after Congress MLA P M Narendraswamy hailed the Government for promptly implementing 5 guarantees.
