4 more arrested in connection with Padil resort attack

Mangalore, July 30, 2012: The city police, on July 30, Monday, arrested four more men in connection with the attack on students celebrating a friend’s birthday at Morning Mist Home Stay on July 28, Saturday. The total number of people arrested so far in relation to this case is 12.

Moral PoliceThe arrested are Chetan, Shailesh, Sunil, and Harish, all members of Hindu Janajagarana Vedike (HJV).

A city crime branch team led by Inspector Venkatesh Prasanna nabbed the four.

On July 28, Saturday, a group of activists allegedly belonging to the HJV barged into Morning Mist Home Stay, a resort in Padil, where a group of 13 college students were celebrating their friend’s birthday, and assaulted the revelers. Students, members of the public, social organizations, and political parties condemned the act. The HJV, however, has denied having anything to do with the attack and has stated that the people of Padil engineered it because they were fed up of the illegal activities going on in the resort.
