2 Matsyagandha passengers robbed of valuables

Mangalore, Dec 31 ,2012 : The repeated warnings by the police authorities to train passengers against accepting eatables from strangers, seem to have fallen on ears.

 In a latest case, two passengers of the Matsyagandha Express have been robbed off their valuables worth nearly Rs 4.5 lakh by strangers while travelling in the Mumbai-Mangalore train.

They had consumed biscuits laced with intoxicants, offered to them by some strangers..


It is reported that the two passengers namely Naveen  C Shetty of Karinjka in Bantwal and Chandan of Kundapur, both friends,  have lost  two gold chains, finger rings, bracelet, mobile phone and a cash of Rs 27,000.

The two had consumed biscuits offered to them by strangers and soon fell asleep, due to the influence of the intoxicants mixed in the same. They came to know of the cheating only when they woke up when the train reached Mangalore Central Station on December 27.

The victims had to be hospitalized for nearly three days to recover and they lodged a complaint with the Mangalore Railway police on December 30, Sunday.
It is learnt, they were forced to consume the biscuits by the strangers who boarded the train near Chipunkar.

The railway police who registered the case later transferred it to Chipunkar railway police
