2 MIT students drown in Kaup

Kaup, August 11, 2011: Two students of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), who visited Kaup Beach for a swim yesterday, died of drowning.

 

The deceased are Abhijit Singh (18) of Chandigarh and Janakish (21) of Macedonia. The police say that Janakish’s body was recovered with the help of the local people.

 

The students drowned at around 4:00 p.m., when they, along with 3 other students from MIT, were having a good time on the beach. All the students, except Abhijit, were foreigners.

Janakish had arrived at Manipal from Bangalore last month under a student exchange program.
