Mangalore, Nov 27, 2011: The 17th National Youth Festival will be held in the Mangala Stadium from Jan 12 to Jan 16 this year.
Addressing reporters at a press conference held in the DC’s conference hall today, DC Dr. Channappa Gowda said that the festival will be organized by the state government in collaboration with the union government. Five thousand delegates, officials, and VIPs from 7 union territories and 28 states will participate in the event.
He also said that the national steering committee organized a meeting in New Delhi on Nov 21 and decided that the inauguration ceremony and the valedictory ceremony of the event will be held at Mangala Stadium. President Prathiba Patel will inaugurate the festival.
A number of committees and sub committees have been formed at the state as well as district levels to ensure the smooth organization of this event. The committees have been meeting regularly and making the required arrangements, he added.
Government officials will visit Mangalore to monitor preparations and arrangements made for the festival. They have already visited all the shortlisted venues for accommodation and competitive and non competitive events. Most of the venues have been finalized, he said, adding that they have been selected according to government specifications.
Competitions will be held on a wide range of categories such as classical instrumental, classical dance, and classical music. The non-competitive category comprises a young artists’ camp, which includes sculpture, painting, and photography events. A food festival, Yuva Kriti, adventure activities, and cultural events will form part of the event. A total of 25 National Youth Awards will be conferred on youth achievers, he said.
Dr. Vijayaprakash, the CEO of ZP; Chandrakanth, the joint secretary of the ZP; and several youth affairs and sports ministry officers were also present.
