121st Ambedkar Jayanthi observed in Town Hall

Mangalore, April 14, 2012 : The DK district administration celebrated the 121st birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at Town Hall today.

MLA Yogish Bhat, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, CDA Chairman B. Nagaraj Shetty, ZP Vice President Dhanalaxmi Janardhan, DK ZP Secretary Vijayalakshmi Shetty; ZP CEO K. N. Vijayaprakash, Deputy Mayor Amitakala, Karnataka Minority Wing President N. B. Abubakker, DC Dr. Channappa Gowda, Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, SP Abhishek Goyal, and Prof. Abhay Kumar of the department of Kannada in Mangalore University were also present.

After MP Nalin Kumar Kateel lit the lamp and inaugurated the event, the other dignitaries offered floral tributes to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s portrait.

Prof. Abhay Kumar delivered the presidential address, after which he offered tributes to Devraj Urs. Observing that Ambedkar is a national leader although he came from the Dalit community, he said that, although Devraj Urs did a lot for the welfare of the backward classes, nobody remembers him today.

The event was jointly organized by the ZP, Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), district administration, and Social Welfare Department (SWD).


Several police officers, government officers, and political leaders participated in the event.
