11 resolutions passed at 17th DK District Kannada Sahitya Sammelan

Bantwal, Nov 20, 2011:  A total of 11 resolutions were passed at the valedictory ceremony of the 17th DK District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, which was held on Nov 19 Sunday at Alike Shree Sathya Sai Hall. 


Some of them are to prevent the shutting down of Kannada medium schools, to oppose the Nethravathi River diversion project, to make the introduction of Kannada name boards mandatory, to urge the government to introduce separate day and night trains from Mangalore to Bangalore, to oppose the extension of SEZ and protect nature and agricultural activities, to oppose the step motherly treatment given to rural areas by state and central governments, to demand immediate repair of roads, to demand a cable car system from Gundya to Subrahmanya so that tourists can enjoy the natural beauty of the place, to make arrangements to store water from 14 westward-flowing rivers of DK, to launch mini projects for the welfare of the district, and to make Kannada literature easily and freely available online.

Delivering the presidential address, Convention President Dr. Thalthaje Vasanth Kumar said that the president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishad must ensure that all these resolutions are implemented.
Vasanth Kustagi, the senior writer, spoke of the need to prepare a regional dictionary since Karnataka has several dialects of Kannada. He urged the district sahitya parishad to take up this responsibility. 


Presiding over the event, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade said that works of literature can transform people and cause enlightenment. 


Some of the prominent people present were Padekallu Narasimha Bhat, Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat, Manila Shree Mohandas Swami, ZP President Shailaja Bhat, Dr. Yashovarma, Abdul Khader, and Pradeep Kumar Kalkura.
