’Vishwa Konkani Sardar’ conferred on Basti Vaman Shenoy

Mangalore, Jan 17: The Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation of World Konkani Centre organized Amruth Mahotsav as part of Basti Vaman Shenoy’s platinum jubilee celebrations in TV Raman Pai Convention Hall, Mangalore, on Jan 17, Sunday.

During his welcome speech, Dr. P Dayanad Pai, the chairman of the Konkani Langauge and Cultural Foundation, said that only Basti Vaman Shenoy had the capacity to take leadership and achieve the unachievable.

One of the two buildings of the Community will be named in honor of Basti Vaman Shenoy. This is to serve as a source of inspiration to young people to work for the welfare of the community in particular and society in general. He said that there is no retirement from the work of working for the welfare of the poor and the downtrodden. Youth is a state of mind; it has nothing to do with age. For these reasons, Basti Vaman Shenoy will continue working for social causes. 

Basti Vaman Shenoy was honored with a shawl, a citation, and a memento. B R Bhat read the citation. MLA Yogish Bhat garlanded Basti Vaman SHenoy. Uday L Bembhre, an eminent leader of the Konkani movement in Goa, delivered the felicitation speech.

Oscar Fernandes, the eminent Konkani leader and MP, released the commemoration volume of Basti Vaman Shenoy and said that the title fits Basti Vaman Shenoy perfectly because he is a person who fights for a good cause. He also remarked that people who work in the banking sector generate and cultivate money for a good cause. Basti Vaman Shenoy played a great role in the inclusion of Konkani in the eighth schedule of the Indian constitution, he said.

Kudupi Jagadish Shenoy, the president of the Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation, and Blossom Oscar Fernandes were also present.
