’Celebration of Giving’, a unique festival hosted by IOC and IIPP

Mangalore, Octover 10, 2010: ‘Celebration of Giving’, a unique offering of treasures and a festival of awards was hosted on Saturday, 9th October 2010 by Houston based Mangalorean entrepreneur Max Rasquinha and his wife Jessie. The function was arranged at Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT), Kotekar Beeri, Mangalore under the auspices of The International Orientation Centre (IOC) and The International Institute for Public Policy (IIPP), both of which were founded by the couple.

The function took place in two parts. Part One comprised of the formal handing over of ‘The Treasure Inland of Texas’ to Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology. ‘The Treasure Inland of Texas’ is formidable collection of books, paintings, handicrafts, artifacts, objects of art, antique furniture and so on compiled by the couple over their lifetime. These items have been donated to the new Aloysian campus not only to beautify and enrich with but also to inspire the younger generation.

Part Two was ‘The Festival of Awards’, whereby the couple recognized and felicitated the following outstanding achievers:

· Fr. Denzil Lobo - Outstanding Communicator for the year 2010
· Dr. Jacinta D’souza - Outstanding Community Leader for the year 2010
· Mr. Dayanand Kukkaje - Outstanding Photographer for the year 2010
· Ms. Anita Cordeiro - Outstanding Executive for the year 2010
· Ms. Savitha Basri - Outstanding Co-ordinator for the year 2010
· Ms. Lorraine D’souza - Outstanding Mentor for the year 2010
· Ms. Malini Hebbar - Outstanding Toastmaster for the year 2010
· Ms. Trishma Pinto - Outstanding Gavellier for the year 2010

The awards were handed over by Fr. Ronnie Prabhu.


The highlight of the function was a special award of trophy for the legendary Konkani singer, the late ‘Konkani Kogul’ Wilfy Rebimbus. Vishwas Rebimbus, son of the awardee received the award on behalf of his family.

Earlier Fr. Denzil Lobo, Director of AIMIT gave an inspirational talk ‘I Have a Dream’ and Toastmaster Anita Cordeiro delivered the Key Note Address. Installation of the Toastmaster Gavel Clubs of SDM College, St. Aloysius College of Business Administration and St. Joseph’s Engineering College was also performed on the occasion in the presence of Toastmaster’ Area Governor Malini Hebbar and
Toastmaster’ Division Governor M. N. Pai.

Trishma Pinto compeered the programme.

NRI Mangalorean entrepreneur Max Rasquinha is based at Houston, Texas, USA and he has been instrumental in initiating several development projects in Mangalore, out of his love for his hometown. He has been responsible for establishing the Toastmasters movement in the city, which now has three chartered clubs, several gavel clubs for students and many more fledgling clubs are awaiting charter. On this occasion, Max praised the greatness of his native country India and his adoptive country USA and the need and potential of the two countries to co-operate for the cause of development.
