Mangaluru, Mar 18,2019: “It was Janardhan Poojary who first told us Modi was not alright. Hence it is impossible for me to believe that he could have actually given a statement that Modi has rooted out corruption and should be reelected as the Prime Minister,” said Congress leader and state urban development minister U. T. Khadar. Poojary is a veteran Congress leader and he is also our political mentor. Hence he would certainly wish for Rahul Gandhi to become the next Prime Minister and not Narendra Modi, he said. Khadar made this statement on Sunday while addressing a press meet at the DCCI office at Mallikatta in the city.

Coming down heavily on the BJP’s aggressive electoral tactics, Khadar said when Poojary had contested during the previous Lok Sabha elections, BJP had attacked him using very abusive language. Now the same people are trying to drum up propaganda that Poojary is favouring Modi. This is nothing but political opportunism and is in poor taste. Janardhan Poojary is adored by the poor everywhere. There are lots of people who revere him because of the good work he has done. If BJP genuinely believes that Poojary supports Modi, then it should refrain from fielding its candidate so that Poojary may be elected unanimously, he said.

Regarding rumours that his brother Ifthikar would be Congress candidate from Kasaragod, he said he was not aware of the status as this matter pertains to Kasargod Congress unit. He said any such proposal should come from the local people themselves.

He urged the people to keep aside emotive issues and participate in the elections on the basis of actual issues that matter to us in daily life.
